Northwood Res. 1  Brook House Res 5

Saturday 13th August 2011

A hastily arranged friendly at home against AFC Hayes from a lower division in the Suburban League misfired for the Woods on Saturday. The side put out was experimental and it showed.

The Hayes side, which included a couple of ex Woods players, were far more committed than the home team, and the final score of 5-1 reflected this.

On the positive side, if there can be such a thing after a heavy defeat, was in the form of some of the Woods players.

The Woods second string, playing a system for the first time, had a much better first half than second. This became apparent when a few of the side were played out of their normal positions and comfort zone.

However, as one would say that it is something to build on, and the players have a chance to re-address the situation on Monday, when they travel to Barton Rovers for the last friendly before the season gets under way next Saturday at Chipstead.

The Woods scorer was Ed Clements, who scored from the spot but spoilt it by missing a second penalty in the second half. It was that sort of day.
